Does the ps4 take long to download games

On Xbox One, you insert a disc and are shown a progress bar showing the percentage of the full installation, and when enough is installed to run the game, you'll see a message that says 'Ready to Start! Now, there's another big difference here. Both consoles will let you know when the game is ready to launch. But once you get into the game, some parts may not be finished installing.

However, it seems that Xbox One lets you launch a game even before some singleplayer content is ready. I tested this with Madden 25 on Xbox One. Once the game was 'ready to start' most modes like Connected Franchise or Practice were locked off until the game was completely installed. However, after installing the same game on PS4, those modes were playable after the initial install, which took 38 seconds.

We tested Assassin's Creed IV on two different Xbox Ones, and had the same issue, resulting in standing in that beautiful Animus loading void while it installed the last bits of singleplayer content required to start the story.

Although in that case it only required a couple of extra minutes to get those modes. Unlike Madden, the full disc didn't need to be installed. On both consoles, the game has a timer or progress meter in the main menu telling you the progress of the full install. So at least you aren't left blindly guessing when you'll be able to play. Since all of the games we were testing required an update, we factored this into our times. On the PS4, they happened in the background and didn't affect our ability to install or begin the game, while on Xbox One, the installation from disc wouldn't begin until after the update finished.

I was using an Xbox One connected via Wi-Fi, getting about Mbps download speed, so we ran a test with another Xbox on a faster internet connection installing Assassin's Creed IV to see how much of a difference that could make in downloading the update.

To give you an idea of the time difference the MB updates added, we tested installing Assassin's Creed IV on two consoles with the internet disconnected.

The PlayStation 4 can't get tired. No, but all the othe. Once the PS4 adds the ' update file ' to your download list, stop the download by deleting the update file. Let the other file download and install.

Start the game, and play through the tutorial and then quit the game and THEN download and install the update file. As explained by Quora user Andrew Fox, the copying process seems to be a side effect of Sony sending out bandwidth-saving, small update files. Slow download speeds can be a frustrating thing for PS4 users, especially when downloading large files such as games or patches which can be many gigabytes in size.

The download can seem to be taking forever. Is there anything we can do to speed it up? Here are some main reasons why downloads can take so long on the PS4, plus some fixes:. By far the biggest factor on download speeds on any device is the quality of the connection to the router, and this is no different for the PS4. The main way of improving download speeds on your PS4 is to get off Wi-Fi if you are using it and try to get onto a wired ethernet connection if you can. Wired connections are always better than wireless ones for bandwidth and consistency, giving the best speeds possible.

See our article on this for more information, as well as our article on why Wi-Fi always tends to drop out the further you get from the router.

If you are only using Wi-Fi because you are too far away from the router to run an ethernet cable directly, then a Powerline Adapter could be a good solution to this problem. These are clever home networking devices which allow for a wired ethernet connection to your router, even when you are several rooms away from it.

They consist of a pair of adapter plugs, one of which is plugged in and connected to your router, the other of which is plugged in and connected to your device. The two plugs then communicate through the electrical wiring of the house to deliver a strong, wired, internet connection to any part of the home.

They are plug and play devices with no complex setup or DIY and will work in any house where the circuitry is wired normally and in good condition. Click here to view on Amazon. It will provide a solid, wired ethernet connection to your router using the existing electrical wiring of your house. See our full review of the product and our Powerline Adapters page. Our Product Comparison Table compares all the wired and wireless powerline adapter models at a glance by feature and functionality.

Powerline adapters can be an excellent solution in this case, since they allow for a wired connection directly to your router using the house circuitry, which means you can extract the maximum possible bandwidth out of your internet to get your files downloaded faster. Powerline adapters will work in the majority of houses where the circuitry is wired correctly and still in good condition. In a smaller number of cases they may not work; see our article on these cases. In most modern and semi modern houses you should be fine.

Where the house wiring is in good condition, they can deliver a connection almost as good as if you were plugged into the router directly, which is exactly what gamers need for low latency and downloading large files. Ethernet connections will always be faster than Wi-Fi for downloads. Sometimes this may not work the first time and you need to pause and resume the download a couple of times to get a better speed.
